Hello World

I'm back from the trip to Hong Kong; just got in tonight. The trip was really fun, and we definitely needed more time to explore. A lot of stuff happened, so I am going to make posts according to the dates I was there.

Friday: June 9th

Everyone had to meet outside the Shu-Te library at 5:30 am. The night before I had been up really late waiting for laundry to dry, so 5:30 seemed ridiculously early. We got on the bus and drove to the Kaohsuing airport, checked our baggage, and waited for the flight. The flight was very very short compared to the others we have taken this trip, and I was in Hong Kong before I had a chance to turn on my Ipod and doze off.

At the airport everyone got money (HK dollars), and bought subway passes. Hong Kong and Taipei both had cool subway passes. They were just like credit cards, but instead of feeding them through a machine, we waved them over a sensor and walked into the subway.

We arrived at the YMCA of Hong Kong around 11:30, unpacked, and met back downstairs. Tin-Man walked us around for a little bit and then took us into a traditional Hong Kong restaurant. He ordered tons of food from the menu, and the waiters kept bringing one thing after another to the table.

The table was neat because there was a large, glass, lazy Susan on it. If you wanted something that looked interesting, all you had to do was rotate the lazy Susan.
After lunch we took a ferry to the other side of Hong Kong and walked around in the rain some. It rained pretty much the whole time we were there, which made for some wet socks, and unhappy travelers.

The ferry ride was fun. We paid for it with our subway cards, AKA Octopus cards. The ferry looked so old, but it was kept up pretty well. The seats on it were neat because the backs could be flipped based on which way you wanted to face. The bay was pretty too, but there was so much fog sometimes that you couldn't see out very far.

On the other side of the ay we got off and were immediately bombarded with Indian men trying to sell us tailored suits, copy watches, and/or purses. They got annoying fast because there was someone approaching you every ten steps.

At this point the day was starting to wind down, and a group of us had one thing on our mind: X-Men 3. Ryan navigated us to a movie theater, and went in and watched it. The theaters in Hong Kong are like the ones in Taiwan in respect to the seating arrangement. The seats were assigned, but this time we got to pick our seats. I appreciated the ability to somewhat control where I sat. Unfortunately I was looking at the seating chart upside down, so I sat a little closer to the screen than I planned.

After the movie finished we went back to the hotel and I crashed for the night. I was going to go back out to dinner with everyone, but the rain at that point was so heavy that I decided to just sleep instead.
