Cancel the Day

We were supposed to go to the Kaoshiung Science Museum today. It is one of those museums made for children that has a bunch of interactive projects and work stations. I love those places, they keep me entertained for hours.

We had to meet at the Product Design building at nine, and would leave from there. It was raining really heavily when we met up, so the majority of the group didn't want to go. Rain shouldn't stop us from going into town.

So instead of exploring Taiwan for the day, Tin-Man took some people to get pizza for everyone (Domino's). Good: yes. Adventurous: no. I can't complain though, I enjoy the breaks from the Taiwanese food.

On the right are some pictures from around campus. The pictures are of the Product design building. This is the area we meet up at when we are going to go on a field trip. Inside are our class rooms. The building is really nice; a lot of natural light gets in the room, unlike at Auburn's design building. When you are inside our building you have no light, you lose track of time, and the fluorescent lights get depressing.

Something I have noticed about Taiwan's architecture is that they incorporate a lot of tile into their buildings and walkways. Instead of painting buildings, they just use different colored tiles to liven things up. In the rain the tiles become so dangerous if you aren't wearing good shoes. There are some particularly dangerous tiles on the way to the dorm, and I have almost fallen several times, but was able to steady myself with some awkward flailing motions. Phew.

There are some special yellow tiles laid out throughout the campus for the blind students (Why they need to be yellow if the people are blind I don't know...). They are textured differently and lead directly from the door of one building to another. It is a great solution for making the campus more handicap accessible. If I ever get caught in the rain wearing flip-flops I try to walk on these; they grip better.
